Anti-impotence drug Tadalafil (brand name – Cialis) may reduce symptoms caused by enlarged prostate, U.S. researchers said.
Men with enlarged prostate taking Cialis every day have fewer symptoms, such as urinary frequency, urgency, intermittence, straining, incomplete emptying or a weak urinary stream.
This news potentially opens large market for ED drugs.
More than 1,000 men with enlarged prostates (benign prostatic hyperplasia or BPH) were tested by researchers at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, Northwestern University in Chicago and Lilly Research Laboratories.
Men was given various doses of Cialis, while other was given a placebo. Those who took Cialis reported improvement of their symptoms. Even low dose (5 mg daily) had great effect, reported Dr. Claus Roehrborn.
It was also observed that Cialis caused few side effects, in contrast to the drugs, used to treat BPH, that may cause dizziness, low blood pressure and erectile dysfunction.
